“Finally it’s done!!” Jong Woon screamed in excitement as he carefully took a piece of paper in his little table where he just spent his last two hours concentrating on it. But I wonder whether she’s going to like it or not… he stared at his masterpiece with a big frown on his face. “Aigoo son, why so excited?” suddenly his mother came to his room with a plate full of cookies and a glass of milk on each of her hands. “Cookies!!” Jong Woon squealed, throwing all the crayons from his hands. He quickly grabbed one cookie from the plate by the time it landed on his table. While he was busying himself with the cookie his mother took a peek at the paper his son put carefully at the edge of the table. “Mommy didn’t remember that Ddangkoma had some little hearts on its shell?” his mom asked. “Mom! It’s supposed to be a secret.” Jong Woon quickly tried to snatch the paper from his mother’s hand. His mother giggled. “It’s that for the girl who gave you a cute microphone key chain?” his mother asked. Jong Woon nodded. “But you are not going to tell Heechul-hyung about this right? Please?” Jong Woon pleaded. “Okay, it’s a secret between us.” His mother offered her pinky. Jong Woon quickly intertwined his own pinky with his mother’s. “Even from Ryeo Wook and daddy too?” “Yes, from Ryeo Wook and daddy too.” His mother reassured him. “But anyway if mommy’s not mistaken there’s another boy who’s going to hand her another present too?” “How did you know?” Jong Woon stared at his mother. “Hangeng’s mom told me about the little competition you guys had in class.” “Heechul-hyung said it’s not normal for kindergarten students to fight over a girl, he said it happens only to those teens at high school.” “It wasn’t a fight. I’ll correct your hyung later, I think he watched too much drama. You guys all are friends at the kindergarten. Some more, Hangeng just moved from China. He must be really lonely. Be a nice kid and make friends with everyone, okay?” “But what if that girl likes Hangeng’s present more than mine?” “It doesn’t matter. The one that matters is your willingness to give the present for her.” His mother patted his head. “I’ll see you at dinner time. I have to wake your little brother.” His mother left him in his room.
March 14, 2011 – White Day
“Happy White Day!” Jong Woon said as he handed his present to Ji Yeon. “Thank you, Jong Woonnie~” she replied. “It’s beautiful. You drew it by yourself?” Jong Woon nodded. He blushed a bit. He’s glad because Ji Yeon loves his present. “Happy White Day too.” Ji Yeon said while tugging Jong Woon’s present carefully inside her transparent folder. “Anyway, by chance is that your pet turtle Ddangkoma on the drawing you gave me?” “Yes.” Jong Woon answered. “You want to meet him?” “Can I?” “Of course you can. Come to my house on Sunday. We can have brunch too.” “Hey, what are you guys talking about?” Jong Woon made a face. Why this Hangeng had to appear at such a crucial time. “Jong Woon actually invited me to his house on Sunday.” Ji Yeon smiled at Hangeng. “We are going to play with his pet turtle.” “Can I come too?” Hangeng asked. Jong Woon almost said no since Hangeng will probably ruin his day with Ji Yeon but suddenly he remembered his mother’s words. It wouldn’t hurt to be nice. “Sure. Don’t forget to bring your mother’s super famous Beijing Fried Rice.” Jong Woon grinned at him. “Okay!” he smiled. “By the way, Ji Yeon, this is your White Day present. Happy White Day.” Jong Woon recognized it as a coloring book. Yesterday night before he fell asleep he made his mind to ask Ji Yeon about her favorite present but actually to think about that, it doesn’t really matter anymore right now. “You guys gave me both of my favorite presents.” Ji yeon said happily. “Thank you both of you.” Jong Woon startled but he couldn’t be happier. Three of them laughed although there’s nothing funny. “Let’s go! Our moms are waiting outside.” Ji Yeon grabbed both of Jong Woon’s and Hangeng’s hands and she started to run. Once they are outside, three of them run to their respective mothers and to their surprise their mothers seemed to know each other. “Mom, you know Jong Woonie’s mom?” Ji Yeon asked her mother. “And Hangeng’s mom too?” “Yes, we got bored waiting for you guys so we chitchatted. Say hello to auntie Kim and Han.” The three kids bowed to each other’s mothers. “So cute.” Jong Woon’s mother patted their little heads. “Auntie, is it alright if me and Hangeng come to your house on Sunday?” Ji Yeon asked her. “Sure, I’d love to welcome such lovely kids to my house.” “See you, auntie! Bye, Jong Woon.” Ji Yeon waved as three mothers said goodbye to each other too. “See you!” Hangeng replied. “See you guys! Ddangkoma’s waiting.” Jong Woon added with laugh.
